A few months ago I posted a figure showing the larger venus clams (family Veneridae) present along the coast of Southwest Florida. Here are the additional, mostly smaller-sized Veneridae from the same area: 1 – Waxy Gould Clam (Gouldia cerina); 2 – Lightning Pitar (Jasypitar fulminatus); 3 – Brown Gem Clam (Parastarte triquetra); 4 – Chalky Pitar (Pitar simpsoni); 5 – Banded Transennella (Transennella angulifera); 6 – Colorful Transennella (Transenella conradina). The individual shell photos are not at the same scale. As usual, click on each scientific name to see the relevant entries and the differences among them in our Southwest Florida Shells guide.
