Cassis flammea is the third and smallest of the three species of the genus Cassis found in the tropical western Atlantic Ocean. It may reach 154 mm in length (about 6.7 inches). Its shell surface is smooth and presents a complex color pattern that includes crescent-shaped brown markings. The species is known to feed on echinoids, the group of echinoderms that includes sea urchins, sea biscuits, and sand dollars. Cassis flammea is found in Florida, the Bahamas, and throughout the Caribbean region.
