Exhibit Shells and Their Mounts

The shells on display in the newly refurbished Great Hall of Shells at the National Shell Museum & Aquarium are held in place by custom-made mounts manufactured and installed by Rawls Arts and Design of Gainesville, Florida.

Raymond Rawls and Lorraine Duerden made hundreds of metal mounts that match the unique shape and outline of each shell on display.

The black mounts become literally invisible against the black background, making it look like the shells are “floating” inside the exhibit cases!
