Pteropurpura bequaerti is a graceful species of the family Muricidae that may reach 42 mm (about 1.7 inches). The most evident feature of the shell in this species is the set of “wing-like” expansions laid out intermittently by the snail. The geographic distribution of Pteropurpura beacquaerti is limited to from offshore North Carolina to the east coast of Florida, Florida Keys, and the Gulf of Mexico. The shell in the illustration was collected off Cape San Blas, in the Florida Panhandle. Read more about that particular specimen here.
