For our brave-of-spirit and keen-of-eye readers and enthusiasts, here are the microgastropods in the family Tornidae (vitrinellas and scale snails) found along the shores of Southwest Florida. 1 – Cupola Vitrinella (Anticlimax pilsbryi); 2 – Adams’s Scale Snail (Cochliolepis adamsi); 3 – Different Scale Snail (Cochliolepis differens); 4 – Cuban Vitrinella (Cyclostremiscus cubanus); 5 – Jeanne’s Vitrinella (Cyclostremiscus jeannae); 6 – Trilix Vitrinella (Cyclostremiscus pentagonus); 7 – Suppressed Vitrinella (Cyclostremiscus supressus); 8 – Fringed Vitrinella (Episcynia inornata); 9 – Interrupted Vitrinella (Parviturboides interruptus); 10 – Bales’s Vitrinella (Pleuromalaxis balesi); 11 – Blake’s Vitrinella (Solariorbis blakei); 12 – Gabb’s Vitrinella (Solariorbis infracarinatus); 13 – Terminal Vitrinella (Solariorbis terminalis). These species are closely related to generally similar microgastropods in the family Teinostomatidae (to be presented next time). The individual shell photos are not at the same scale.
