The Tusk Shells of Southwest Florida

Here are some of the tusk shells (families Dentaliidae and Fustiariidae, class Scaphopoda) living along the coast of Southwest Florida. In the family Dentaliidae: 1 – Antillean Tusk Shell (Antalis antillarum); 2 – Pilsbry’s Tusk Shell (Antalis pilsbryi); 3 – Reticulate Tusk Shell (Dentalium laqueatum);  4 – Ivory Tusk Shell (Graptacme eborea): 5 – American Tusk Shell (Paradentalium americanum). In the family Fustiariidae: 6 – Smooth Tusk Shell (Fustiaria liodon). The individual shell photos are not at the same scale.
