Turritellids of Southwest Florida

We are back to the “family pages” today! Here are the shallow-water species of the family Turritellidae found in Southwest Florida: 1 – Florida Worm Snail (Vermicularia lumbricalis); 2 – Fargo’s Worm Snail (Vermicularia fargoi); 3 – Boring Turret Snail (Turritella acropora). Notice how the juvenile shell of the worm snails look like a small Boring Turret Snail. As usual, click on each scientific name to see the relevant entries in our Southwest Florida Shells guide. And the individual images are not to scale.
