Gulf Stream Top Snail

Shell size to 40 mm; shell large, sculpture of spiral cords of two different widths, with symmetrical rather than spirally elongate beads. Color light chestnut-brown to red-brown, umbilicus and aperture of of lighter color. The species lives in deeper water than similar C. tampaense. Only one shell of this species has been found so far on Sanibel-Captiva beaches. This shell (photo) was collected by Len Geyer at the Lighthouse Beach in early 2015. Species previously misisdentified as C. jujubinum.
